Since Tiger is at home/wanting to be in the same room with me or sleeping, I can never play guitar LOUD at home. Also, I like to be nice to the neighbors and a cranked ‘71 Fender Bassman isn’t very neighborly at 10pm. I reserved a room at Nuci’s, grabbed some gear and headed over there for a few hours tonight. Nuci’s is great for so many reasons. They offer a variety of much-needed resources to local musicians. I used to hear good bands practicing there. Now, all I hear is alt-rock, screamo and frat type bands.
I haven’t blasted guitar like that in a long time. I didn’t dare turn the Bassman up beyond 5. I thought the 2x12 cab was going to knock a hole in the wall Kool-Aid Man style. I’m a little very rusty. It was fun! I played a bunch of old GC tunes, some newer stuff I’ve been farting around with at night and some GBV, White Stripes & Flat Duo Jets stuff. My finger tips are all pink and tender.
I took two guitars: My cheapest ($150 Chinese Danelectro) and most expensive ($1000 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop). I A-B’d them through all sorts of pedals and I have to be frank: Save your money kids. The Dano schooled the Gibson for feel, warmth and tone. The guitar just breathes. Buy cheap guitars and put your money into a decent amp.
